Steve Corino’s invitation and the chance to work with rising talent brought Owens to Gatineau.
Summary
– Kevin Owens says Steve Corino and NXT’s emerging talent motivated his ring return
– Owens thanked Tony D’Angelo, Kendal Grey and Shiloh Hill after the Gatineau event
– The appearance marked his first NXT match since WarGames in 2019
Kevin Owens had a personal reason for stepping back into an NXT ring after nearly seven years. Steve Corino asked him to be there, and Owens said that was an invitation he could not turn down.
Addressing fans after the live event in Gatineau, Quebec, Owens explained that Corino had helped guide him early in his career. They met in 2004, and Owens credited the veteran with playing an important part in his development.
The opportunity to work with NXT’s current roster also mattered. Owens singled out Tony D’Angelo, Kendal Grey and Shiloh Hill, thanking them for sharing the ring with him. He praised their contributions and said they were already shaping WWE, rather than simply waiting to become its future.
Getting to Gatineau required a demanding stretch of travel. Owens described going from Winnipeg to Sacramento before heading back to Quebec, while dealing with knee, neck and shoulder issues. His appreciation for Corino helped make the decision straightforward despite that schedule.
Owens closed by offering his support to both Corino and the NXT roster, reminding them that he was available at the Performance Center whenever they needed him.
His previous NXT match came at TakeOver: WarGames in 2019, when he joined Tommaso Ciampa’s team as its surprise partner. This return gave Owens a chance to acknowledge a mentor while working alongside another generation of performers.
