The NXT Women’s Champion discusses gymnastics, representation and life on the road
Summary
– Jordan joined E and Matt as the first guest on Wrastlin’
– She discussed how gymnastics helped and challenged her transition to wrestling
– Jordan talked about representation, marriage, and staying grounded on the road
NXT Women’s Champion Kelani Jordan joined E and Matt for the fourth episode of *Wrastlin’*, becoming the show’s first guest. The conversation covered her path from gymnastics to WWE, the challenges of performing live and the personal values that keep her grounded.
Jordan said gymnastics gave her body control, air awareness, and confidence with high-flying moves. The bigger adjustment was accepting that wrestling does not demand the same kind of perfection. Unlike gymnastics, it is a contact sport that requires her to work with an opponent and respond to the crowd in real time.
She also reflected on becoming the first NXT Women’s North American Champion. Jordan said making history means a lot because she hopes to inspire women who look like her and people who, like her, came to wrestling without a background in it.
Jordan named Naomi, Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair as inspirations. She said she wants to face top competitors such as Rhea Ripley and Becky Lynch, and hopes to wrestle Belair and Naomi when they return.
The interview also touched on Jordan’s recent marriage to Carmelo Hayes. She said the two are intentional about not letting wrestling control their relationship or other parts of their lives. Her faith and interests outside wrestling help her maintain that perspective while traveling.
Jordan encouraged women interested in wrestling to take the risk, find a reputable training school, and believe they can belong in the business.
