Bischoff says neither he nor Hulk Hogan had the authority to control the company
Summary
– Eric Bischoff rejected claims that he and Hulk Hogan destroyed TNA Wrestling
– Bischoff said he had no authority to hire, fire, or control company operations
– He blamed Vince Russo for promoting a misleading version of TNA history
Eric Bischoff has dismissed long-running accusations that he and Hulk Hogan were responsible for damaging TNA Wrestling.
Bischoff addressed the criticism on 83 Weeks after the topic resurfaced through Dark Side of the Ring and Vince Russo’s latest book.
He said the claim makes little sense because neither he nor Hogan had operational control over the company.
Bischoff explained that he could not hire or fire employees, approve raises, issue fines, or make major business decisions.
His agreement reportedly limited his responsibilities to creative work and overseeing certain ideas connected to Hogan.
Bischoff said that blaming him or Hogan ignores the people who actually controlled TNA behind the scenes.
He also criticized those who continue placing blame on Hogan after his death, arguing that Hogan is no longer able to defend himself.
Bischoff revealed that he had little interest in returning to professional wrestling when the TNA opportunity appeared.
He said he joined because Hogan asked him to help monitor his creative direction while Vince Russo remained part of the writing team.
Bischoff admitted that he might handle some situations differently today, but he does not regret helping Hogan.
The run also allowed Bischoff to work with his son, which he still considers an important personal experience.
His strongest criticism was directed at Russo, whom Bischoff accused of changing history to support his own narrative.
Bischoff believes criticism of TNA’s creative direction is fair, but he continues to reject the idea that he and Hogan had enough power to destroy the promotion.
