– Current AEW tag team tournament and ROH growth highlight women’s wrestling push
ROH Women’s World Champion Athena is making bold statements about women’s wrestling and backing them up with confidence. During an interview with WFAA News in Texas, Athena claimed that AEW and ROH boast the strongest women’s division in the sport today.
“We have the best roster in the world,” she said. “We have Mercedes Moné, Toni Storm, myself, the Minion Overlord and Forever ROH Champion.” Athena emphasized that talent isn’t the issue when organizing an all-women’s AEW show, noting that the real challenge is timing. According to her, Tony Khan has already discussed the idea, and it’s just a matter of when it happens.
Athena praised Ring of Honor’s consistent focus on women’s wrestling, saying, “I like to say Ring of Honor is the girl show because we have women’s wrestling across the board. From Leila Grey to Billie Starkz to Sareee to Alex Windsor, we get to see these women grow on ROH and then progress through AEW.”
She also confirmed that Khan’s long-term plans include building a deeper foundation before launching AEW’s first all-women’s event. For now, Athena is teaming up with TBS Champion Mercedes Moné in the ongoing AEW Women’s Tag Team Championship tournament while continuing her advocacy through Metroplex Wrestling’s “Who Runs the World? 2” event in Texas.
“My goal is to showcase the power of women’s wrestling,” Athena said, reinforcing her belief that AEW and ROH lead the global movement for female talent. With her dominant run as champion and outspoken passion, Athena’s words carry serious weight in a growing conversation about equality and spotlight in pro wrestling.
