Pat McAfee Says WWE Run May Be Finished After Long Absence

Former commentator hints the company has moved on without him

Summary

– Pat McAfee says a WWE return does not seem likely right now

– The broadcaster has been away from regular WWE duties since June 2025

– McAfee remains focused on his ESPN shows and other media work

Pat McAfee has offered an update on his WWE status, suggesting a return to the company may not be happening anytime soon.

The former WWE commentator addressed the topic during a recent question-and-answer session on Instagram Stories. When asked if he planned to return to WWE television, McAfee explained that he cannot completely rule out the possibility but admitted it does not currently feel like the right time.

McAfee said the company appears to have moved forward while he has been focused on other commitments. According to him, WWE is doing well without his involvement, and he is comfortable watching the product as a fan for now.

Despite the uncertainty about a return, McAfee expressed gratitude for his time in the company. He spoke about the honor of working in an industry he grew up loving and specifically praised longtime commentator Michael Cole for the opportunity to share the broadcast booth.

McAfee stepped away from his regular WWE commentary role in June 2025. At the time, he explained that the decision was connected to burnout and the demanding schedule created by his many media responsibilities.

Although he briefly appeared at the WrestlePalooza premium live event in Indianapolis later that year, he has not resumed a full-time position with WWE since then.

Outside of wrestling, McAfee remains heavily involved in broadcasting. He continues to host The Pat McAfee Show on ESPN and serves as a prominent analyst on ESPN’s College GameDay coverage.

McAfee also had several memorable moments in the ring during his WWE run. He competed against notable opponents, including Gunther, Austin Theory, and The Miz, during special matches and premium live events.

While fans still hope to see him return to WWE programming, McAfee’s latest comments indicate his current focus remains firmly on his broadcasting career.
