More information has come to light following the January 12 arrest of actor Kiefer Sutherland in Los Angeles. Law enforcement sources say the incident stemmed from a dispute over a ride-share service involving an Uber driver.
According to the driver’s account, Sutherland allegedly struck him multiple times and attempted to choke him during the confrontation. Authorities noted that no injuries requiring medical treatment were reported.
Sources familiar with the situation said the driver exited the vehicle to distance himself from Sutherland, while witnesses on the scene believed the actor may have been under the influence. The driver reportedly contacted 911 while attempting to flee the situation.
Investigators were also told that a dash camera inside the vehicle may have recorded portions of the alleged altercation. Officials are reviewing available evidence as the case continues to develop.
Sutherland was arrested on suspicion of felony criminal threats and later released after posting a $50,000 bond. Prosecutors are expected to move forward with formal charges ahead of a scheduled court appearance on February 2.
