According to The Cybersec Guru, the leaked hex strings are directly tied to the PS5’s BootROM, a critical piece of code permanently embedded in the system’s APU. These ROM keys are used every time the console powers on to verify the integrity of the bootloader before the operating system loads.
If the leaked keys are authentic, hackers could decrypt and analyze Sony’s official bootloader, potentially gaining insight into how the PS5’s boot process functions at a fundamental level. This type of access could open the door to future kernel-level exploits and make jailbreaking attempts easier over time.
Because the vulnerability exists at the hardware level, Sony would be unable to address the issue through system updates fully. The only permanent fix would involve revising the hardware itself by changing the chips in newly manufactured consoles, meaning PS5 units already in circulation could remain affected.
