Summary

– Randy Orton returned on the first SmackDown of 2026 after months away

– Orton laid out The Miz with back-to-back RKOs to open the show

– He later warned Cody Rhodes that a title challenge is coming

Randy Orton made his long-awaited return to WWE television during the first SmackDown of 2026, immediately reasserting his presence on the blue brand.

The show opened with The Miz delivering a promo in which he positioned himself as the locker room leader, criticizing the roster and calling them spoiled and entitled. His speech was quickly interrupted by Orton, who made his way to the ring to a strong reaction.

Miz attempted to align himself with Orton by pitching the idea of a MizKO reunion. Instead, Orton responded with an RKO out of nowhere. He pulled Miz back to his feet and delivered a second RKO, wishing him a Happy New Year as the segment came to an abrupt end.

Later in the night, Orton crossed paths with Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. During their interaction, Orton made it clear that he is targeting the championship and plans to challenge Rhodes after his upcoming title defense against Drew McIntyre.

With Orton officially back in the mix, the road ahead for SmackDown’s main event scene just became far more dangerous.
