Rights questions loom as WWE reshuffles its digital strategy

NXT currently airs on Tuesday nights on The CW, but its long-term streaming home has not been finalized. Recent changes to WWE’s digital distribution have further complicated the picture.
According to reports, a large portion of WWE’s video library was removed from Peacock on January 1. This included extensive footage from the territory era and much of the historical archive that fans had previously relied on.
What remains available on Peacock is limited. SmackDown television archives, Saturday Night’s Main Event, and select NXT major shows are currently accessible, but this situation may be temporary.
NXT’s premium events are expected to stay on Peacock until March. Beyond that point, there is no confirmed destination, leaving the future of those shows unresolved.
There has been interest in WWE’s archive content from outside platforms in the past. ESPN has reportedly explored the possibility of carrying portions of the library, while Netflix is set to stream many main roster premium live events under a separate agreement.
Territory-era footage is expected to eventually surface on YouTube, though the rollout is anticipated to be gradual. That means much of WWE’s classic content could remain unavailable for an extended period.
As WWE continues to negotiate and restructure its media rights, fans are left to navigate a fragmented landscape. Where NXT’s major shows ultimately land remains one of the key unanswered questions.
