Summary
– Kevin Owens interfered and cost CM Punk his NXT Championship match against Grayson Waller
– Waller took advantage of the distraction to score a roll-up victory
– Punk and Owens are scheduled to meet in a No Holds Barred Match this Friday
CM Punk’s first match in an NXT ring in more than 16 years ended in defeat after Kevin Owens interfered in his championship match against Grayson Waller.
Punk challenged Waller for the NXT Championship in the main event after Waller’s controversial win over Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc. The match also came days before Punk and Owens are set to meet in a No Holds Barred Match.
Waller spent much of the bout targeting Punk’s ribs and neck, even poking him in the eye behind the referee’s back. Punk answered with a suicide dive, a flying crossbody, and a top-rope elbow drop, but Waller stayed in the match.
Punk connected with a superplex and later prepared to hit the Go to Sleep. Owens then appeared and distracted him, giving Waller the opening to roll up Punk for the three-count and retain the championship.
Owens fled after the interference, leaving Punk furious in the ring. Waller celebrated another title defense, while Punk gained another reason to target Owens before their match this Friday.
