His championship opportunity against Rey Fenix is on hold
Summary
– Mini Vikingo says doctors have told him he needs elbow surgery
– The injury has sidelined him from NXT and his planned AAA championship match
– Rey Fenix will defend his title in an open challenge instead
Mini Vikingo has revealed that an elbow injury suffered while competing in NXT will require surgery, delaying his planned challenge for Rey Fenix’s AAA World Cruiserweight Championship.
The update came during the October 24 edition of AAA Héroes Inmortales. Fenix visited Vikingo in the trainer’s room, where the young wrestler explained that he still wanted his championship opportunity despite his doctors’ news.
“I injured my elbow at NXT and the doctors say I need surgery, but I don’t want to lose this match.”
Fenix reassured Vikingo that he had earned the opportunity and said he would try to remain champion until Vikingo could return. With their scheduled meeting unable to proceed, Fenix announced an open challenge for the following week’s Héroes Inmortales broadcast.
The announcement follows Vikingo being withdrawn from the October 20 episode of NXT after he was not medically cleared. He had been scheduled to team with Chazz Hall and EK Prosper against Vanity Project.
Vikingo’s most recent match took place on October 13, when he and Hall faced Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Their tournament run ended with a loss to Vanity Project.
Neither a surgery date nor an expected recovery period has been announced. His immediate future therefore remains uncertain, including when he might resume competing in NXT or pursue another championship opportunity in AAA.
For now, Fenix will move ahead with a different challenger while Vikingo addresses the injury that has interrupted his run across both promotions.
