She doubts she would make the cut today
Summary
– Liv Morgan says childhood fandom did not make training easier
– She credits WWE with giving her time to develop after joining in 2014
– Morgan believes she might struggle to make the cut if she started today
Liv Morgan believes the time WWE gave her to learn was essential to building her career.
Speaking with Sean Evans on Hot Ones, Morgan reflected on entering the company in 2014 and discovering that years of watching wrestling had not prepared her for the difficulty of performing it.
Morgan had been a devoted WWE fan since she was five. That enthusiasm led her to expect a much quicker rise once she began training.
“I thought I was gonna walk in there and be a natural. I thought I was gonna absolutely kill it.”
She even imagined becoming a champion within her first year. Once training began, however, she realized how much work she needed to do.
Morgan described her childhood fandom as providing “the illusion of an advantage.” Understanding wrestling as a viewer did not mean she could immediately execute what she had watched.
Looking back, she is grateful that WWE allowed her to develop at her own pace. She believes that patience made a significant difference during her early struggles.
“I’m so grateful that I started when I did ’cause I think if I started now, I don’t think I would’ve made the cut ’cause they gave me a lot of time to develop and train and learn.”
Her comments reflect her personal assessment of the opportunity she received, rather than an announced change to WWE’s developmental policies.
The adjustment also brought financial challenges. Morgan recently recalled having as little as $6 left during some weeks of her first year in NXT after paying for rent, transportation, and wrestling gear.
Those early experiences remain part of how she views her eventual success. Morgan entered WWE with enthusiasm and high expectations, but she credits the chance to struggle, practice, and improve with helping her turn that ambition into a championship career.
