AEW is expanding its reach in Japan with a new streaming agreement involving Hulu Japan.
AEW announced on September 15 that Hulu Japan will begin streaming Dynamite, Collision, and AEW pay-per-view events this fall.
The company confirmed that Japanese viewers will receive both weekly shows and major events through the platform. AEW did not announce an exact launch date for the service.
The announcement came one day after WWE revealed that Netflix will become its new streaming home in Japan beginning October 1. WWE programming is leaving ABEMA at the end of September after a three-year run.
Netflix will carry RAW, SmackDown, and NXT for Japanese viewers. AEW’s agreement with Hulu Japan will provide a competing package featuring its weekly television shows and pay-per-view events.
The timing places both major American wrestling companies in new Japanese streaming homes at nearly the same time. Japan remains one of wrestling’s most important markets, making the deals significant for both promotions.
AEW and WWE will now offer Japanese fans different streaming options heading into the fall. AEW will be available through Hulu Japan, while WWE programming will move to Netflix.
