Mexico City rallied behind Penta as Reigns survived a major challenge
Summary
– Roman Reigns defeated Penta in the WWE RAW main event
– Penta nearly won after hitting multiple high-impact moves and near falls
– Reigns finished Penta with a Superman Punch and Spear to retain the title
Roman Reigns walked into a hostile Mexico City crowd and walked out of WWE RAW still holding the World Heavyweight Championship.
Penta received overwhelming support from the crowd and attacked Reigns immediately after the opening bell. He used chops, a headstand dropkick, and a flip dive to keep the champion under pressure.
Reigns eventually slowed the match down by targeting Penta around ringside. He drove Penta into the ring post and powerbombed him onto the announce table while trying to take control of the main event.
The champion later appeared to be dealing with an issue involving his right arm. Reigns struggled to deliver a Superman Punch, allowing Penta to continue attacking and create several opportunities for an upset.
Penta hit the Penta Driver and later connected with a Destroyer, but Reigns continued to escape before the referee could count to three. The challenger also landed multiple superkicks as the crowd grew louder.
Reigns then grabbed a microphone and demanded that Mexico City acknowledge him before attempting another Spear. Penta answered with a superkick and a springboard Destroyer for another near fall.
The finish came when Penta attempted one more springboard attack. Reigns caught him with a Superman Punch, followed by a Spear, and scored the three-count to retain the championship.
Penta pushed Reigns to his limit and came close to winning the title in front of his home-country crowd. Reigns survived the challenge, but the champion left Mexico City with the championship and very little support from the fans.
