The Miz has reached 20 years since his official WWE SmackDown debut, and longtime rival John Cena made sure to recognize the milestone.
Miz’s first televised WWE match came against Tatanka in 2006 after his journey through Tough Enough and WWE developmental. The match was taped on August 29 before airing on SmackDown days later.
Cena congratulated Miz on social media and offered significant praise for the former WWE Champion’s longevity and work ethic.
Cena said Miz earned his respect long ago and revealed that he regularly uses him as an example when speaking with younger wrestlers about effort and making the most of every opportunity.
The recognition carries additional meaning because Cena and Miz shared one of the biggest rivalries of their careers.
They headlined WrestleMania 27 in 2011 for the WWE Championship, with The Rock becoming heavily involved in the conclusion of the match.
Miz had hoped to face Cena one more time during Cena’s retirement run, but another singles match between the longtime rivals never happened.
Their paths still crossed during Cena’s final stretch. Miz appeared during Cena’s retirement show and later interacted with him when Cena hosted WrestleMania 42.
Miz also marked his own anniversary by making it clear that reaching the 20-year milestone does not mean his career is finished.
The 45-year-old remains active for WWE and is scheduled to team with Kit Wilson against Bakusai members Shinsuke Nakamura and Kyoki on SmackDown.
He has also remained active on WWE live events throughout the summer, frequently working matches involving Danhausen and Kevin Owens.
Cena retired from active competition in December 2025 and now serves as a WWE ambassador, but his message showed that the respect between the former WrestleMania opponents remains strong.
Twenty years after Miz first arrived on SmackDown, Cena believes his consistency and ability to make every opportunity entertaining have turned him into an example for the next generation.
