Leon Slater and Ricky Sosa receive a surprise championship opportunity
Summary
– Santino Marella booked a surprise TNA World Tag Team Championship main event
– Nic and Ryan Nemeth were ordered to defend against Leon Slater and Ricky Sosa
– Slater also remains set to challenge Nic Nemeth at Bound for Glory
Santino Marella caught Nic and Ryan Nemeth off guard during the August 27 episode of TNA iMPACT by announcing an immediate TNA World Tag Team Championship defense against Leon Slater and Ricky Sosa.
The Nemeths entered the iMPACT Zone, celebrating their success at Lockdown after defeating Matt and Jeff Hardy inside the steel cage to regain the TNA World Tag Team Championship. Nic is also the reigning TNA World Champion, making him one of the rare wrestlers in company history to hold the world and tag team championships simultaneously.
The brothers used their championship celebration to boast about their status before turning their attention toward Slater. Nic mocked Slater for exercising Option C and relinquishing the X Division Championship for a TNA World Championship opportunity at Bound for Glory.
Slater interrupted the celebration and made it clear that he intends to become the youngest TNA World Champion in company history. He then noticed the Nemeths were carrying another set of championships and revealed he had another goal in mind.
Slater brought out Ricky Sosa, pointing to their success together as a team before setting his sights on the TNA World Tag Team Championship. The Nemeths immediately rejected the idea that Slater and Sosa had earned a championship opportunity and insisted Daria Rae would never approve the match.
That argument did not matter once Director of Authority Santino Marella arrived. Marella told the Nemeths that while Daria might not approve of the challenge, he would.
Marella then officially announced Nic and Ryan Nemeth would defend the TNA World Tag Team Championship against Slater and Sosa later that night in the main event.
The announcement put Nic in an especially difficult position. He already knows Slater is coming for his TNA World Championship at Bound for Glory, and Marella allowed the challenger to take championship gold from the Nemeth family well before that match arrives.
