– Gimple says crossover ideas involving major characters remain in play

The Walking Dead television universe will continue beyond Dead City Season 3 and Daryl Dixon Season 4, according to franchise chief Scott M. Gimple.

Speaking with The Direct at MultiCon 2026, Gimple confirmed that additional Walking Dead projects are being developed, including both shorter productions and ongoing series. He said conversations about some of those ideas had taken place as recently as the previous week, making it clear that the franchise still has plans beyond its currently announced shows.

The major change will be how quickly those projects arrive. Gimple compared the situation to franchises such as Star Wars and Marvel, which have also moved away from releasing large numbers of television projects within short periods. He said The Walking Dead will continue, but the rollout will be slower, so the creative teams have more time to develop future stories.

Questions about the franchise have increased because Daryl Dixon is scheduled to end with Season 4 in 2027, while Dead City has not been officially confirmed beyond Season 3. No additional Walking Dead television series has been formally announced, but Gimple made it clear that more projects are being discussed behind the scenes.

A possible crossover involving characters from different Walking Dead shows also remains on the table. Gimple said he still dreams of bringing characters together and confirmed that various plans are in the works, though he did not announce a specific project or reveal which characters would be involved.

That leaves the door open for potential reunions involving major figures such as Rick Grimes, Michonne, Negan, Maggie Rhee, Daryl Dixon, and Carol Peletier. For now, however, any crossover remains a possibility rather than an officially announced series.

Gimple also pushed back against the idea that The Walking Dead is nearing the end of its television run. He described the franchise as being, at most, around the middle of its life and said The Walking Dead continuing on television is not in question.

Dead City is currently moving through Season 3, while Daryl Dixon is preparing for its fourth and final season in 2027. Beyond those shows, Gimple says fans should expect more Walking Dead projects, but with a slower, more deliberate rollout.
