Fan support inspired Kairi to continue her wrestling career
Summary
– Kairi Sane said her WWE release completely blindsided her
– Her storyline was approaching a major turning point when she was let go
– The worldwide #WeWantKairi movement inspired her to keep wrestling
Kairi Sane has opened up about the shock and disappointment she experienced after being released by WWE. The former NXT Women’s Champion said she never expected to lose her position while appearing regularly on Raw and participating in multiple storylines.
During an interview with ShuPro, Kairi explained that she believed her character was approaching an important turning point. After months of holding back and building up frustration in the story, she finally expected to reveal her full potential.
“It was just as much of a bolt out of the blue for me as it was for everyone else,” Kairi said. “I was appearing on Raw almost every single week without missing a beat.”
Kairi believed everything was beginning to fall into place when WWE suddenly released her. The timing made the decision especially painful because she had fully committed to the company’s creative direction and expected the storyline to deliver a major payoff.
“The story was reaching a turning point where my character was about to explode into action,” Kairi said. “So getting released right at that moment was a huge shock.”
The release did more than end her employment with WWE. It also prevented Kairi from completing the story she had spent months developing alongside the other performers involved.
Kairi said she had regained confidence in her wrestling style and was determined to create momentum for herself and WWE. When that opportunity disappeared without warning, she initially struggled to decide what to do next.
“I never cut corners, and I intended to fulfill the role given to me with all my strength,” Kairi said. “Having that storyline cut off right in the middle was what left the biggest regret.”
Her outlook changed after she found the courage to check social media. Kairi discovered that fans around the world had started the #WeWantKairi movement in response to her release.
The campaign reportedly reached the top of the worldwide trends. Kairi said the overwhelming support helped her through one of the most difficult periods of her career.
“I summoned the courage to open social media, only to find the ‘#WeWantKairi’ movement was already happening,” Kairi said. “I was truly saved by that.”
Kairi was particularly moved because several wrestlers had been released around the same time. Despite the number of departures, fans continued posting messages about her unfinished storyline and the potential they believed WWE had left unexplored.
Although Kairi rarely held a central role in WWE’s storylines, she always sought to bring creativity and entertainment to every assignment. Seeing how closely fans had followed her work convinced her that her wrestling journey could not end with the release.
“Realizing that people had been watching so closely and supporting me like that made me so happy,” Kairi said. “It made me think, ‘I can’t let things end here.’”
Kairi recently teased her return with the message, “How Far I’ll Go… See you soon.❤️” She has not announced where she will wrestle next, but her comments make it clear that she remains determined to begin another chapter outside WWE.
