Brie Bella refused to let a broken shoulder end her WWE SummerSlam match before Nikki Bella could complete her comeback. The WWE Hall of Famer revealed that stopping the six-woman tag team bout was discussed after she suffered the injury.

Speaking alongside Nikki on their latest vlog, Brie admitted she immediately knew something was seriously wrong with her right shoulder. Despite the intense pain, her primary concern was remaining in the match long enough for her sister to receive the hot tag.

“I don’t know if it’s because we’re people pleasers, but the whole time in my head I’m like, ‘No, I got to stay in so Nikki can get the hot tag,’” Brie said.

Brie explained that she was told to remain down while those around her considered ending the match. However, she rejected the idea because Nikki had not yet delivered her planned comeback.

“They were telling me, like, ‘Stay down.’ Or they were thinking about calling the match,” Brie said. “Even though I was in crazy pain, all I could think about was, ‘Nikki’s got to hit that comeback.’”

The injury forced Brie to abandon several planned moves, including her missile dropkick and a backdrop. Because the damage was to her right shoulder, which she normally relies on for much of her offense, she had to throw forearms with her left arm and improvise through the remaining action.

“I could feel it,” Brie said. “I broke my right shoulder. My right’s my strength, so I had to throw forearms with my left.”

Rather than focusing on the pain, Brie became concerned that her limited movement was hurting the quality of the match. She worried that the injury made her appear sloppy and made her the weakest member of her team.

Nikki quickly dismissed that concern and explained that viewers were impressed by Brie’s ability to finish the match. She said fans recognized that her sister was injured and praised her for continuing despite the damage.

The sisters also reflected on their similar experiences with serious injuries. Nikki previously completed a match after breaking her ankle, while Brie managed to finish at SummerSlam with multiple fractures in her right scapula.

Brie is beginning physical therapy and waiting to learn whether surgery will be necessary. She admitted that one of the hardest parts of the setback is the possibility of watching Nikki continue wrestling without her.

“I just don’t want to do this again without you,” Brie told her sister.

Although her SummerSlam return ended with a serious injury, Brie remains determined to recover. Her decision to finish the match ensured Nikki received her comeback and showed that the broken shoulder will not necessarily mark the end of Brie’s WWE story.
