Mercedes Moné, who gained fame as Sasha Banks during her WWE tenure, recently discussed the circumstances surrounding her exit from WWE. During an appearance on WFAN, Moné shared insights into her departure, which occurred in May 2022 due to creative differences with Vince McMahon. Alongside Naomi, Moné left WWE while holding the Women’s Tag Team Championships, leading to their indefinite suspension from WWE SmackDown.

Reflecting on the incident, Moné hinted that the complete story might only be revealed in a future book. She emphasized her journey from being a “legit boss” to becoming the “CEO” of her own life, underscoring a pivotal moment of clarity where she chose to pursue personal growth and stand up against what she perceived as unjust circumstances.

“For so many years, everyone wants the tea on that drama. You’re not going to get it unless you buy the book, maybe ten years later,” Moné teased. She highlighted her decision to leave WWE as a turning point, making her one of the highest-paid women in wrestling history. Moné now holds the TBS Championship in AEW and is pursuing the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship.

Since officially leaving WWE at the start of 2023 and joining New Japan Pro-Wrestling, Moné’s career has continued to ascend. She debuted in AEW in March 2024 and is gearing up for a major match at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, where she will defend her AEW TBS title against Stephanie Vaquer’s NJPW Strong Women’s title in a title vs. title showdown.
