Summary

– Suffered a broken tibia at AEW Double or Nothing 2024

– TNT Championship vacated, new champion to be crowned at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door

Adam Copeland, known to wrestling fans as Edge, is currently out of action with an injury that required surgery. Despite this setback, he’s looking at the positive side. Speaking on “Busted Open Radio,” the WWE Hall of Famer shared how the injury has influenced his on-screen character and sparked thoughts about potential changes, though he might keep his current persona intact.

“Part of me goes, ‘Well, you recreate yourself.’ But each injury kind of adds itself to the character that I was already portraying, which — to be honest — is not that far removed from me at this point. I don’t know how much I change, honestly. I think it’s just one more instance of grizzled vet fighting back from another one.”

Copeland suffered a broken tibia after jumping off the top of a cage at AEW Double or Nothing 2024. He managed to finish the match and retain the AEW TNT Championship against Malakai Black, but he is expected to be sidelined for the next few months.

It remains uncertain if Copeland will reinvent himself when he recovers, but he has admired Chris Jericho’s “Learning Tree” gimmick. Copeland praised Jericho as an example of successful character evolution, though he might follow different paths.

“There’s something to recreation,” he said. “I just don’t know if this is the instance for that with me.”

Due to Copeland’s injury, the TNT Championship was vacated on the May 29 edition of “Dynamite.” To crown a new champion, a ladder match will occur at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.
