Owens Opens Up About Their Main Event Performances on ‘Raw’ and Unfulfilled Potential Compared to The Usos

Summary

– Kevin Owens feels he and Sami Zayn delivered outstanding matches as tag team champions on ‘Raw,’ but their efforts went unnoticed.

– Despite their hard work, Owens believes their reign didn’t match up to The Usos’ due to lack of opportunities.

– Their WrestleMania 39 victory marked a pinnacle, but their reign concluded in September at a live event.

WWE star Kevin Owens recently shared his thoughts on his tag team title reign with Sami Zayn during an interview with “Inside The Ropes.” Owens expressed his belief that they had fantastic matches during their time as champions but felt they didn’t receive the recognition they deserved.

“I’ll say this, me and Sami worked our asses off to give main events on ‘Raw’ every week, that had people going wild, and we succeeded,” Owens stated. “I’m not one to toot my own horn, I really am not, but I think Sami and I did a lot of special things as champions that went under the radar because they weren’t on pay-per-views, they weren’t in the big, you know, under the big, bright lights, they were usually on ‘Raw.’ But we had some very special matches, and it was great to have that with them regardless.”

Reflecting on their tag team title run, Owens expressed disappointment in not being able to match the success of The Usos. He highlighted the lack of opportunities they received compared to the renowned tag team.

“What I wish we could have accomplished, one of the things I had said before we won the title is I hope we were going to do justice to the run that Usos had with them. I don’t think we got the chance to do that, but we … it’s certainly not for a lack of trying,” Owens explained.

Their journey culminated in a memorable main event at WrestleMania 39, where they defeated The Usos to claim the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships. However, their reign ended in September at the Payback Premium Live Event, where they lost the titles to Finn Balor and Damian Priest, known as The Judgment Day.

Despite their efforts to deliver top-notch performances on ‘Raw’ and their WrestleMania triumph, Owens and Zayn’s tag team title run ultimately fell short of their aspirations, leaving them with a sense of unfulfilled potential.
