Rey Mysterio Weighs in on the Transition from McMahon to The Game

The landscape of WWE has seen a seismic shift over the past year, marked by Vince McMahon’s departure from the CEO position in July 2022. This move came in the wake of allegations surrounding sexual misconduct and hush money. With Vince’s exit, the reins of creative control were handed over to Triple H, a stalwart of the wrestling business.

Though Vince made a brief return to the board of directors in January, his involvement in the creative aspects was limited and remote throughout 2023. The recent WWE-UFC merger further solidified Triple H’s position, granting him full creative authority.

In a candid conversation with Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour, Rey Mysterio, the current WWE United States Champion, shared his thoughts on the changing dynamics. Reflecting on Vince’s absence, Mysterio remarked, “It’s wild not to see him. Even though we got used to him not being there, it’s just crazy to go to Gorilla and not see him there.”

When probed about his communication with Vince, Mysterio mentioned, “I’ve had texts and emails with him, not too many.”

The conversation naturally shifted to the leadership of Triple H. Mysterio, full of praise, stated, “He was part of the roster, so he understands what we do and go through. I don’t think they could have picked a better person to take that role. He’s been doing incredible.” Mysterio further highlighted the positive changes, noting the smoother flow of operations and a more stable atmosphere backstage.

Currently, Mysterio is at the forefront of WWE programming, leading the LWO alongside Santos Escobar, and continues to be a pivotal figure in the company’s narrative.
