SmackDown’s Viewership Takes a Dip: Analyzing the Numbers

0

Despite a drop, WWE SmackDown remains strong with over two million viewers.

Viewership numbers are a crucial metric in the ever-evolving world of professional wrestling. WWE’s flagship show, SmackDown, has consistently performed in this regard. However, the September 22 episode saw a noticeable decline in its viewership. According to data from Wrestlenomics, the episode garnered 2.227 million viewers, a significant drop from the 2.569 million viewers on September 15. This previous episode had the added allure of surprise appearances from legends like The Rock and Pat McAfee.

The September 22 episode didn’t just see a dip in overall viewership. The key demographic of 18 to 49 also recorded a rating of 0.63, a slight decrease from the previous week’s 0.70. Preliminary numbers had hinted at this decline, with the show posting 2.115 million viewers, down from 2.445 million the week before.

Despite these numbers, it’s essential to note the episode’s highlights. The YouTube metrics provide a glimpse into what caught the audience’s attention. The top moments included a segment featuring John Cena and AJ Styles teaming up against Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa, which garnered 362,000 views. Another highlight was Austin Theory’s segment on The Rock, which attracted close to 297,000 views.

While fluctuations in viewership are not uncommon in the wrestling industry, WWE SmackDown’s ability to consistently pull in over two million viewers is commendable. The show’s resilience and the WWE’s creative direction will play a pivotal role in maintaining and potentially increasing these numbers in the future.
