Wrestling Legend Mick Foley Discusses His Time in WCW and the Incident That Changed His Career

Mick Foley, a name synonymous with wrestling, recently opened up about his journey in WCW during a podcast episode titled “I Have More To Give!” on his channel, FOLEY is POD. Foley, known for his personas as Cactus Jack, Mankind, and Dude Love, shared his experiences of the European tours, his love for the freedom of the road, and the incident that marked a turning point in his career.

Foley reminisced about the WCW European tours, contrasting the freedom of making towns in America with the group-oriented nature of the European tours. He expressed his preference for the solitude of long drives and hotel rooms over being with the group 24/7.

The wrestling legend also touched upon the dreariness of the Old Eastern Germany tours, noting the stark difference between the run-down Eastern towns and the Western ones like Munich. However, Foley’s main grievance was with the WCW management’s failure to utilize his German language skills for promotions and interviews, despite his diligent efforts to learn the language.

Foley’s frustration reached a peak following an incident during a match with Vader in Munich, where he lost an ear. Despite the dramatic nature of the event, Foley felt that WCW failed to capitalize on the incident, leading him to give his notice.

“This is wrestling, this is the one line of business where losing an ear is not only not a bad thing but it could be a great thing… this is Boom, this is new coming out of the gates hot and when I saw none of that happening in the build-up and none of that in the aftermath… I gave my notice,” Foley said.

Foley’s candid discussion about his time in WCW provides a fascinating insight into the world of wrestling and the challenges faced by its stars. As fans eagerly await more episodes of FOLEY is POD, Foley’s reflections serve as a reminder of his enduring impact on the sport.
