Last-minute changes to WWE officials' plans may have affected Brock Lesnar's draft status

During the second night of the 2023 WWE Draft, WWE fans were shocked to hear that Brock Lesnar had become a free agent. Nevertheless, according to recent reports, WWE officials may have made some last-minute changes to their plans for the Beast Incarnate.

According to Dave Meltzer on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE altered their plans for Brock Lesnar just one day before the WWE Draft. Initially, Lesnar was supposed to be picked by one of the brands during the draft, but at the show’s beginning, it was announced that he was not eligible to be picked as he could do whatever he wanted.

“I don’t know if it’s one of those things, because he was supposed to be picked on today’s show, and then they announce at the beginning of the show that he’s not eligible to be picked, because he’s gonna do whatever he wants. It seems like that was a change, but this year he was advertised to be picked by one brand or another,” Meltzer said.

Despite this, having Brock Lesnar as a free agent is a smart move for WWE, as he can draw viewership numbers on both of WWE’s main roster shows throughout the year. USA Network and FOX would also be pleased to share him, rather than one network getting every Lesnar appearance.

While the reason for the change in plans is still unknown, Lesnar will continue to prepare for his highly anticipated match against Cody Rhodes at WWE Backlash on May 6th.
