WWE registers with Indiana Gaming Commission amid rumors of legalizing betting on matches

0

WWE has extended its efforts to legalize gambling on its predetermined matches to the state of Indiana, Colorado, and Michigan. According to a recent report by CNBC, the company has met with regulators in Colorado and Michigan to discuss the possibility of wagering on “high profile” WWE matches and has already registered with the Indiana Gaming Commission for the same purpose.

However, the Colorado Division of Gaming has stated that it is not considering legalized wagering on WWE matches, citing a statute prohibiting gambling on predetermined contests such as awards shows. If the Michigan Gaming Control Board approves legalized wagering on WWE matches, the information will be made public through the organization’s Sports Wagering Catalog.

To demonstrate to regulators that gambling on predetermined contests can be done safely, WWE has hired the accounting firm, Ernest & Young, to secure match results. The firm already works to secure results for predetermined contests such as the Academy Awards. WWE executives have proposed that match results would be “locked in” months ahead of time and prevented from leaking to the public, with wrestlers not informed of a match’s outcome until shortly before it occurs.
