AEW’s roster boasts several talented performers who must be utilized to their full potential, and WWE is noting. Fans have been wondering about the whereabouts of Brian Cage, who disappeared from AEW television. Recent reports suggest that WWE is showing interest in the wrestler, whose contract with AEW is set to expire imminently.

As per Sean Sapp’s report behind Fightful’s paywall, extending Brian Cage’s AEW contract had some hiccups. The company had hoped to extend Cage’s contract while he was sidelined due to an injury. However, Cage was interested in exploring free agency and pushed back against the idea of an extension.

This development has caught the attention of WWE, who are reportedly interested in Cage’s services. However, they can only pursue him if he becomes a free agent.

The expiration date of Cage’s AEW contract was reportedly between late January and mid-February. He has had some heavy hitters within AEW in his corner, with Chris Jericho publicly expressing his hope that Cage re-signs with AEW and praising his work.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Brian Cage, but if AEW is not utilizing him to his full potential, WWE might be able to offer him more opportunities. However, AEW owner Tony Khan might not make it easy for Cage to leave, as he did with Kenny Omega.

Fightful Select has been told that WWE has maintained interest in Cage in the event he becomes a free agent, and are open to having conversations with the ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champion. That period won’t have to wait long, as we’re told AEW and Cage agreed to work together through the end of March, specifically the ROH Supercard of Honor PPV.

We’re told that some of the time that was supposed added to Cage’s contract is actually because Cage was signed while injured after leaving IMPACT Wrestling years ago. Those familiar with the situation claim that AEW offered Cage a contract extension comparable to his current deal, which hasn’t been ruled out.
