WWE’s collaboration with the Saudi Sports Government has been a game-changer for wrestling fans worldwide, bringing about dream matches and unforgettable moments that were previously unimaginable. Another epic Middle Eastern event is in the works, promising to deliver even more excitement.
Initially, the return of both the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments was announced for a special premium live event in May, but the location remained a mystery. As per PWInsider Elite, the 2023 King and Queen of the Ring premium live event is set to take place in Saudi Arabia on May 27th, aligning with the Backlash pay-per-view.
Interestingly, this date clashes with the traditional time of AEW Double Or Nothing, which takes place over Memorial Day Weekend. Nevertheless, Tony Khan has yet to announce the official date for the highly anticipated pay-per-view event.
It is noteworthy that the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments have been hosted in Saudi Arabia previously, with the finals occurring at Crown Jewel in 2021. At the time, Xavier Woods and Zelina Vega emerged victorious, earning the titles of King and Queen of the Ring, respectively.
While it remains to be seen whether the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund will host the tournaments, recent reports suggest that Saudi Arabia is still keen on buying WWE. Nick Khan, WWE’s CEO, has hinted at a potential sale in the coming months, leaving fans wondering what the future holds for the billion-dollar wrestling company.
