John Cena is set to return to WWE just in time for WrestleMania season. In an email by WWE, it was announced that Cena would be appearing on the March 6 episode of Raw at the TD Garden in Boston. This marks his first announced appearance for a WWE show since he made a guest appearance on the final SmackDown episode of 2022.
John Cena had only one match in 2022, teaming up with Kevin Owens to beat Roman Reigns & Sami Zayn on the December 30 episode of SmackDown. According to Dave Meltzer, Cena had plans to face Austin Theory for the WWE United States Championship at WrestleMania 39. Theory is the current titleholder, having successfully defended his title in an Elimination Chamber match against Seth Rollins, Montez Ford, Damian Priest, Johnny Gargano, and Bronson Reed last Saturday.
On tonight’s Elimination Chamber fallout edition of Raw, Theory will defend his US title against Edge. The match was made official after Theory issued an open challenge that Edge accepted.
