There is mounting evidence that Cody Rhodes is a significant draw for WWE. In recent weeks, the segments featuring “The American Nightmare” have consistently been the most-watched on “WWE Raw” on the USA Network. During the in-ring part with Sami Zayn on Monday, over 2,080,000 viewers tuned in, resulting in a 0.53 rating in the 18-49 key demo. The show averaged 1,812,000 viewers, with Rhodes’ segments receiving the most attention.
In addition, Rhodes’ highly regarded promo exchange with Paul Heyman on February 6 was viewed by 2,027,000 viewers at the beginning of the third hour, typically when viewership drops. It’s noteworthy that this segment did exceptionally well, as viewership typically drops during this time slot. The audience reportedly increased by 11% from the previous quarter. To put this into perspective, only the segments featuring Rhodes-Heyman and Brock Lesnar-Bobby Lashley could attract more than 2 million viewers.
Rhodes’ segments have also been viral on YouTube, with only those featuring Roman Reigns and Zayn garnering as many views.
Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer reports that Rhodes has been a significant attraction for WWE’s live events, with ticket sales for several shows increasing substantially after his Royal Rumble win. For instance, after announcing Rhodes’ appearance, WWE “sold a ton of tickets” for a show in Columbus, Georgia.
Rhodes has been among WWE’s top merchandise sellers since his in-ring return at the Royal Rumble.
At WrestleMania 39, Rhodes is the favorite to dethrone “The Tribal Chief” Roman Reigns and become the new Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. There is a growing sentiment among fans on social media that this win could elevate Rhodes as the fresh face of the promotion.
