Summary

– AMC Networks is in talks to renew The Walking Dead streaming deal

– Current Netflix agreement expires in less than a year

– Series logged nearly 500 million hours viewed in late 2025

The Walking Dead could soon generate another major payday for AMC Networks as its long-running streaming agreement with Netflix approaches expiration. During a recent earnings call, AMC Networks CEO Kristin Dolan confirmed that discussions are underway regarding a potential renewal.

The 177-episode flagship series, which concluded in 2022, is scheduled to revert to AMC Networks’ control in less than a year. Dolan noted the show accumulated nearly half a billion hours of viewing time on Netflix during the second half of 2025 alone, underscoring its continued value in the streaming marketplace.

While Dolan declined to discuss financial specifics, she acknowledged that the rights remain highly valuable. She also stopped short of confirming whether negotiations are exclusive to Netflix, though such agreements typically include an exclusive negotiation period before the content holder explores other options.

AMC Networks and Netflix have maintained a partnership since 2011, when the zombie drama first landed on the platform. That relationship expanded in recent years to include additional AMC titles such as Interview with the Vampire, Dark Winds, and several Walking Dead spinoffs.

Despite operating its own streaming service, AMC+, the company recognizes Netflix’s global reach and audience scale. Dolan expressed optimism about maximizing the franchise’s value, signaling confidence that the property remains a powerful asset in the evolving streaming landscape.
