Sony Raises PS5 Prices Again With Major Global Increase

Standard console now $150 higher than original launch price

Summary

– Sony increases PS5 prices globally starting April 2

– Standard PS5 now $649.99, PS5 Pro jumps to $899.99

– Economic pressures cited as reason for price hike

Sony is once again raising the price of its PlayStation 5 lineup, marking another significant increase for the popular console family.

Beginning April 2, all PS5 models will see price increases of $100 to $150, depending on the version. The standard PlayStation 5 will now retail for $649.99 in the United States, while the PS5 Digital Edition rises to $599.99 and the PS5 Pro climbs to $899.99.

This latest adjustment pushes the standard PS5 well above its original $499.99 launch price from 2020. The company had already implemented an increase in 2025, signaling a continued trend of rising consumer costs.

Sony also confirmed that the PlayStation Portal remote player will see a $50 increase, bringing its U.S. price to $249.99. Similar adjustments are being applied across global markets, including the United Kingdom, Europe, and Japan.

According to Sony, the decision stems from ongoing economic challenges affecting the global market. Rising production costs, supply constraints, and broader financial pressures have all contributed to the move.

Industry analysts had anticipated these increases, citing inflation, tariffs, and component shortages as key factors driving hardware prices higher across the gaming sector.

The price hike raises questions about consumer demand moving forward, especially as the PlayStation 5 approaches the later stages of its lifecycle.
