Summary

Developer Sam Eng has announced that his highly anticipated indie title, Skate Story, will officially launch on PlayStation 5 on December 8. The surreal skating adventure casts players as a glass-bodied demon, cursed to skate through the Underworld on a mission to devour the Moon and satisfy the devil’s contract.
Eng shared new details on the PlayStation Blog, including a closer look at gameplay features, creative tools, and the original soundtrack composed by Blood Cultures. The artist captured the pulse of New York City through a mix of industrial textures and field recordings, blending the chaos of the city with the haunting tones of the game’s underworld setting. “Their music doesn’t just accompany the world, it defines it,” Eng said.
Skate Story will let players customize their decks through wear-and-tear mechanics, meaning every grind, pop, and slide will leave visible marks. Players can trade fragments of their soul at mysterious shops to unlock new boards, trucks, and wheels, then personalize them with collectible stickers that naturally wear off over time.
Eng also revealed how the PS5 DualSense controller enhances the experience. The light bar reflects the skater’s glass body as it glows through the darkness of the Underworld, while vibration feedback adds intensity to tricks, grinds, and explosive finishers. Players can chain tricks into massive combos and “STOMP” them to unleash damage against celestial enemies.
After years of development, Skate Story is nearly ready to ride. The combination of its ethereal art style, physics-driven gameplay, and emotionally rich soundtrack makes it one of the most distinctive releases on the horizon.
