AEW veteran says his current run will likely be his last
Summary
– Samoa Joe says his AEW run will probably be his final chapter
– The former world champion doesn’t want a retirement match or farewell tour
– Joe wants to step aside gracefully and let younger stars shine
Samoa Joe has no interest in a grand goodbye. During a recent conversation with SHAK Wrestling, the AEW star made it clear that his current run could be the last time fans see him compete on a full-time schedule.
Joe, who has spent over 25 years in professional wrestling, said he’s focused on leaving before overstaying his welcome. He explained that longevity and health matter more than a dramatic sendoff, noting that preserving himself for life after wrestling is a priority.
“I’d say most likely,” Joe admitted when asked if this was his final run. “You never want to overstay your welcome. I’ve been fortunate to do this for so long. Many of us want to preserve what we can of our health for our later years.”
When the time comes, Joe plans to exit quietly. “No, not at all,” he said of a potential farewell tour. “It might just be one day I’m gone and leave it at that. I’m not as ceremonial as everybody else. I like disappearing into the sunset.”
Joe also spoke about his respect for the industry’s future. “I wouldn’t want to hold up a young, burgeoning industry on behalf of myself,” he said. “I’ve always been someone who looks toward the future, not the past.”
Joe has built one of wrestling’s most respected legacies after a career spanning TNA, Ring of Honor, WWE, and now AEW. From his dominant world title reigns to his work mentoring younger talent, his legacy speaks for itself. When he walks away, it’ll be with quiet confidence and lasting respect.
