Rayman PS1 Classic Getting Surprise PS5 Remake, Creator Confirms

HD update and quality-of-life changes planned for iconic platformer

Summary

– Rayman creator Michael Ancel confirmed an HD remake of the original game

– The remake will include added checkpoints to reduce frustration

– Multiple Rayman projects are reportedly in development at Ubisoft

A surprise remake of a classic PlayStation title has been confirmed, with Rayman set to make a return on PS5.

During a recent interview with Retro Gamer, Rayman creator Michael Ancel revealed that the original Rayman game will receive an HD rerelease. While Ancel did not provide a specific release window, he noted that the updated version will include additional checkpoints designed to make the experience more accessible for modern players.

Ancel explained that difficulty spikes in the original release could be frustrating for less experienced players, and the added checkpoints are intended to address that issue without altering the core design. He described the update as a positive step that preserves the spirit of the game while smoothing out its roughest edges.

The confirmation aligns with earlier reports suggesting a Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition is in development. That version is said to be handled by Atari and distributed by U&I Entertainment, a company with prior experience releasing physical Ubisoft titles.

Industry insider Tom Henderson has also reported that Ubisoft is currently working on two Rayman-related projects. One is believed to be the anniversary edition, which Henderson claims will be released very soon.

The second project is rumored to be a remake of Rayman Legends, though details remain scarce. No official release dates or feature lists have been announced for either title.

With confirmation now coming directly from the franchise’s creator, Rayman fans may not have to wait much longer to revisit one of PlayStation’s most recognizable platformers on modern hardware.
