– The technology improves image quality, stability, and overall performance in supported titles
Sony has started rolling out an upgraded version of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution for PS5 Pro owners, bringing improvements to visual fidelity and performance across several major games.
The update began deploying on March 16 at 10 PM PT and will arrive in phases. Sony confirmed that the improved algorithm and neural network powering the new version of PSSR were developed through its Project Amethyst collaboration with AMD.
Capcom was among the first developers to outline how the technology would enhance one of its upcoming titles. Resident Evil Requiem will receive a mix of graphical improvements, performance adjustments, and better overall visual clarity using the updated PSSR system.
Konami also confirmed support for the feature in its horror lineup. Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill F will benefit from smoother gameplay and sharper visual detail, helping highlight environmental textures and lighting effects.
Another notable addition comes from CD Projekt Red. Cyberpunk 2077 will receive a free technological update for its PS5 version that leverages the PS5 Pro hardware and improved upscaling. The studio previously indicated it had no plans for a PS5 Pro upgrade in 2024, making the upcoming update a notable shift in direction.
Electronic Arts confirmed Dragon Age: The Veilguard will support the upgraded PSSR as well. The new technology will help maintain more stable frame rates across both Fidelity and Performance modes while also improving overall image quality.
Several other developers are also bringing the feature to their games. Remedy Entertainment plans to update both Control and Alan Wake 2 with the new technology, while Senua’s Saga Hellblade 2 will take advantage of the improved upscaling capabilities.
Square Enix is also updating Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. According to game director Naoki Hamaguchi, players can expect enhanced visual stability and a more immersive presentation once the upgrade is implemented.
Additional titles confirmed to support the updated system include Nioh 3, Rise of the Ronin, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Dragon’s Dogma 2. These games are expected to see improvements in both image clarity and overall performance on the PS5 Pro.
