Sony has quietly deployed a new PS5 system software update for February 2026. Firmware version 26.01-12.70.00 rolled out early on February 12 and appears to focus strictly on performance maintenance.
According to the official patch note, the update improves system software performance and stability. No new features or interface changes have been announced.
The download size is over 1 GB. Updates with similar wording typically address minor backend refinements or security measures rather than visible user-facing additions.
This release follows a more substantial January update. That earlier firmware introduced the ability to jump directly from the Welcome Hub’s Friends Activity widget into games that friends are actively playing. It also added read receipts to the PS5 messaging system, bringing parity with features previously available in the PS App. Usability improvements were included as well.
At this time, no additional functionality has been confirmed for the February patch beyond general system stability enhancements.
