Summary
– NJPW confirms EVIL will leave once his contract expires
– Departure follows title loss and recent exit reports
– EVIL leaves behind multiple championships and tournament wins
New Japan Pro-Wrestling has confirmed that EVIL will leave the company at the end of January, when his current contract expires.
The announcement was made on January 25, with NJPW stating that the decision came after discussions between both sides and will officially close the book on EVIL’s run with the promotion.
NJPW acknowledged the sudden timing of the news and thanked fans for their support while wishing EVIL success in his future career.
The confirmation follows several days of reports suggesting EVIL had already given notice and was expected to move on once his deal concluded.
Speculation increased earlier this month after EVIL dropped the NEVER Openweight Championship to Aaron Wolf at Wrestle Kingdom 20, a result many viewed as a clear signal that his exit was approaching.
At 38 years old, EVIL leaves NJPW with one of the most decorated resumes of his generation, including reigns as IWGP Heavyweight Champion, Intercontinental Champion, multiple Tag Team and NEVER Openweight title runs, and extended success in six-man competition.
He also captured the 2020 New Japan Cup and won the World Tag League twice alongside Sanada, solidifying his place in the company’s modern era.
With EVIL officially on the way out, attention now shifts to his next destination and whether a move to WWE becomes reality.
