Summary
– Barry Windham’s comment led to false reports that Mike Rotunda was in hospice care
– Daughter Mika Rotunda confirmed he is recovering in a rehabilitation center after a heart attack
– The Rotunda family thanked fans for their support and asked for continued privacy
The wrestling community was shaken earlier this week when Barry Windham mentioned that his former tag team partner, Mike Rotunda, was in hospice care. The statement quickly spread online, sparking concern across the industry. Now, Rotunda’s daughter, Mika Rotunda, has released a message clarifying her father’s condition.
Posting on Instagram Stories on October 29, Mika confirmed that her father is not in hospice but recovering in a rehabilitation facility after suffering a severe heart attack last month. “He suffered a massive heart attack on September 20th, was in a coma for a week, and spent over a month hospitalized,” she explained. “By the grace of God, he has now transitioned to a rehabilitation center, where our family remains hopeful and focused on his recovery.”
Mika described the past several weeks as difficult but shared that her father’s determination and resilience have carried him forward. “It’s been a long road, and we know there’s still more ahead — but our faith in God remains strong,” she wrote. “Anyone who knows my dad knows his strength, work ethic, and athleticism have always helped him overcome every challenge. If there’s one person I believe in, it’s Captain Mike.”
She also expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of love from fans and fellow wrestlers while requesting privacy for the family. “We are deeply grateful for the prayers and support from the wrestling world and our local communities,” Mika added. “We kindly ask for privacy as we continue this journey together, but we welcome continued prayers and positive energy.”
Mike Rotunda’s legacy remains deeply woven into wrestling history. Best known as Irwin R. Schyster (IRS), he carved out a respected career that extended to his sons Bray Wyatt and Bo Dallas. The update from Mika brings relief and hope that the WWE veteran’s recovery continues moving positively.
