Liv Morgan Reveals Reason Behind Major WWE Gear Change

Royal Rumble winner explains shift from sneakers to wrestling shoes

Summary

– Liv Morgan replaced signature sneakers with amateur wrestling shoes in 2019

– Change came during character overhaul and new presentation

– Says sentimental value makes it hard to part with old ring shoes

Liv Morgan has opened up about the significant change she made to her in-ring look and why it mattered to her WWE evolution.

Over the years, Morgan’s presentation has shifted dramatically, from her colorful Riott Squad era to the darker aesthetic associated with The Judgment Day. One of the most noticeable changes came in 2019 when she moved away from wearing sneakers in the ring.

Speaking on the Battleground Podcast, Morgan explained that she previously wore Converse and Air Jordan sneakers as part of her gear. When she decided to refresh her character, she felt it was necessary to let go of elements tied to her earlier persona.

Morgan said she now wears ASIC amateur wrestling shoes, layered with kickpads and leg covers, to achieve the desired aesthetic. The switch symbolized a clean slate. She described the decision as part of wanting to feel brand new, even if it meant giving up something she genuinely loved.

The conversation also turned to her collection of sneakers. Morgan admitted she recently tried clearing space in her shoe rack but struggled to part with pairs she once wore during important matches. Each pair represents a memory tied to moments in her career.

She specifically mentioned her Doernbecher Eights, which were part of Mets-inspired gear worn in New York. For Morgan, those shoes are more than accessories. They represent milestones, making it difficult to let them go.
