Summary
– Kiefer Sutherland and Al Pacino headline Luc Besson’s new film ‘Father Joe’
– Directed by Barthélémy Grossmann, filming starts mid-October in New York
– EuropaCorp and LB Production backing the project known for action hits
Kiefer Sutherland and Al Pacino are joining forces for Father Joe, a gritty new action thriller written and produced by Luc Besson. The film, set in 1990s Manhattan, will be directed by Barthélémy Grossmann and produced by Besson’s EuropaCorp and LB Production — the same teams behind hits like Taken, Lucy, and Léon: The Professional.
Sutherland stars as a priest who declares war on the city’s criminal underworld, while Pacino portrays a ruthless mob boss whose empire collides with Father Joe’s crusade. Rising star Ever Anderson, known for her roles in Black Widow and Peter Pan & Wendy, plays a young woman torn between redemption and corruption under the priest’s guidance.
Production begins in mid-October, with Sutherland also serving as a producer. “I have been a fan of Luc Besson going back to Subway,” Sutherland said. “He has a unique capacity to weave drama and action together without sacrificing either. I can’t wait to get started.”
The announcement follows Besson’s recent success with Dracula: A Love Story, which has performed strongly in several international markets and continues to expand his global reach as a filmmaker.
