Jim Ross addressed questions surrounding John Cena’s farewell and made it clear that WWE never contacted him about taking part. Speaking on Grilling JR, Ross responded directly when asked whether the company reached out ahead of Cena’s final match.

Ross said he was not surprised by the lack of communication and pointed out that he does not work for WWE. He added that the decision was entirely theirs and did not express bitterness over being left out.

Despite that, Ross said he would have happily participated if given the opportunity. He noted that AEW President Tony Khan would have approved the appearance if WWE believed Ross could contribute in any way.

Ross also reflected on his personal history with Cena. He recalled recruiting Cena while he was training at Rick Bassman’s UPW school and praised his work ethic and dependability. Ross said Cena stood out early and earned his success through consistency.

He acknowledged that Cena faced jealousy from others early in his career but credited him for pushing through and becoming one of WWE’s most reliable performers. Ross made it clear that while he was not involved in the farewell, his respect for Cena remains unchanged.
