Late night chaos leads to unexpected championship change
Summary
– Izzi Dame won the Women’s NXT North American Championship on January 6
– The title match was added late after an earlier bout was canceled
– Thea Hail entered injured and was unable to overcome the odds
WWE NXT New Year’s Evil took an unexpected turn on January 6 when the planned Women’s North American Championship match was abruptly scrapped. Thea Hail was scheduled to defend her title against Blake Monroe, but the bout never officially began.
Before introductions were completed, Blake Monroe attacked Hail on the entrance ramp. The assault sent the champion into the ring steps and then through the barricade, which broke on impact. Officials immediately intervened and called off the match.
Blake Monroe was escorted from the arena and later banned from the building by NXT General Manager Ava. Despite being shaken and injured, Thea Hail refused to leave the night without defending her championship.
Later in the show, Hail returned to the ring and issued an open challenge. She stated that she had promised a title opportunity and declared that whoever reached the ring first would get the match. The entire women’s locker room rushed toward the ring.
Tatum Paxley attempted to make her way down, wielding a chainsaw, but Izzi Dame reached the ring first, and the match was made official. Dame immediately went on the attack, targeting the already injured champion.
Hail attempted to fight back but struggled to keep pace due to the earlier assault. Dame controlled much of the match and capitalized on Hail’s limited mobility throughout the contest.
The turning point came when Hail attempted a dive to the outside. Dame caught her and drove the champion into the announce table, further weakening her. Moments later, Dame delivered a Dame Over from the top rope.
Izzi Dame secured the pinfall and captured the Women’s NXT North American Championship. The sudden title change capped a chaotic night and marked the biggest victory of Dame’s career.
