– The Walking Dead alum plays a headmaster suspected in his wife’s disappearance
– The series is described as a chilling psychological mystery debuting this spring
ITV has released first-look images from its upcoming drama series Gone, placing David Morrissey front and center in a tense new role. The early images offer a glimpse of Morrissey’s character as the story unfolds.
Morrissey, best known to Walking Dead fans for portraying The Governor, stars as Michael Polly, a respected school headmaster whose life unravels after his wife goes missing. The newly released images follow an earlier still showing him seated in a police interview room opposite Detective Annie Cassidy.
Eve Myles co-stars as Cassidy, the sharp and determined detective tasked with uncovering the truth. As the investigation deepens, a psychological battle develops between investigator and suspect, slowly stripping away Michael’s carefully maintained exterior.
Although fictional, Gone draws inspiration from real-world policing. The book partly influences the series To Hunt a Killer and the career of former Gloucestershire Police detective superintendent Julie Mackay, who served as a consultant. ITV crime correspondent Robert Murphy also contributed insight from complex cases in the West of England.
The official synopsis describes Michael as an orderly and controlled figure whose sense of stability begins to fracture under scrutiny. The story explores themes of trauma, trust, and the hidden costs of power and reputation within elite institutions.
Gone was written by George Kay and directed by Richard Laxton. The supporting cast includes Jennifer Macbeth, Arthur Hughes, Nicholas Nunn, Elliot Cowan, Billy Barratt, Rupert Evans, Jodie McNee, Oscar Batterham, and Clare Higgins.
The series is scheduled to premiere on ITV and STV this spring and will be available to stream on ITVX and STV Player. A specific release date has not yet been announced.
