Production is currently underway in Tampa and the Gulf Coast for the new independent horror-thriller The Last Time. The project has secured a strong ensemble cast, including The Walking Dead alum Chandler Riggs and Starship Troopers star Casper Van Dien. They are joined by Jake Satow, Dominic Burgess, John D’Aquino, and Addison Bowman in the feature being made in partnership with Film Tampa Bay.
The film boasts a serious pedigree in the visual arts department, with Neville Page coming aboard as creature designer. Page is an industry veteran known for his work on massive franchises, including Avatar, Star Trek, and Cloverfield. He noted that the unique depth of the mythology and the opportunity to create a creature born from emotion drew him to the production.
Directed by Shane Brady, the plot centers on a cursed hourglass that can transport users back to the final moment they saw a loved one alive. A grieving college swimmer hunts down the artifact in search of closure, but encounters a predatory villain. This entity feeds on grief and threatens to imprison the protagonist inside a landscape of memory and time.
Producer Persephone Hawkins expressed excitement about shooting in her hometown and elevating the project with Page’s concept designs. Shane Brady echoed the sentiment, stating that it is a dream to tell a homegrown story with a cast and crew fully invested in the creative process.
