Former WWE star discusses contract issues, legal talks, and his current inactivity
Summary
– Andrade says a missed clause in his old WWE contract triggered a lengthy non-compete
– He explains why lawyers from both sides are negotiating a new agreement
– Andrade hopes to resume competing soon once WWE signs off on a final date
Andrade is currently sidelined as he works through contract complications stemming from his release from WWE. After returning to AEW following his exit from WWE, questions quickly arose regarding whether he was subject to a non-compete clause and for how long it would restrict him. Andrade clarified his status in a detailed interview with DeporTV.
He explained that he initially returned to WWE in hopes of being closer to Charlotte Flair. Still, their marriage ended, and he became frustrated with wellness-related warnings tied to supplements he legally used in Mexico. Andrade said he ultimately agreed to leave WWE on good terms and later returned to AEW, which may not have been well-received by his former employer.
According to Andrade, his previous lawyer—who also represented Charlotte—missed a contract clause imposing a twelve-month non-compete. He said WWE activated that clause only after he appeared in AEW. Andrade stated that he is currently inactive and restricted from competing worldwide while the matter is being negotiated.
He confirmed that his lawyers are speaking directly with WWE’s legal team to reduce the length of his restriction. Andrade noted that going to court is an option, but it would be costly and time-consuming, so both sides are attempting to finalize a workable agreement. He believes a return date exists privately but needs WWE’s approval to formalize it.
WWE contracts typically include a ninety-day non-compete, but language allowing a one-year restriction gives the company broad control. Andrade remains hopeful the issue will be resolved soon so he can return to the ring as quickly as possible.
