Following his short-lived stint with Tony Khan’s AEW, William Regal has finally opened up about his departure from the company. Regal, who was heading the Blackpool Combat Club, has since moved to WWE and is currently working behind the scenes as an executive.
In a series of tweets, Regal explained that his decision to leave AEW was based on a need for more time to focus on where he wanted to be. He clarified that there was no hidden agenda or ulterior motive behind his departure, as some fans had speculated.
Regal further revealed that he had discussed his reasons for leaving with Tony Khan in a phone call, during which Khan shared his own problems with him. However, Regal advised Khan to focus on his family instead of talking to him.
The conversation eventually continued two weeks later in Jacksonville, where they discussed Regal’s departure. Despite the brevity of the conversation, Regal expressed his understanding that Khan had summarized their discussions in his public statements.
With Regal’s explanation, fans can now put the issue to rest and appreciate his contributions in his new role with WWE.
Just so anyone who wants to know the truth. I know Tony summed up a few conversations we had with quick answer. FYI, Tony called me at 9 pm on a Sunday night and I discussed my reasons for leaving were time spent where I won’t to be. Then and I only then did he tell me ….1/2
