Charlotte Flair Issues Apology To Referee Following Heelish Display After Winning Title

Published on

Charlotte Flair’s return to WWE on the final SmackDown of 2022 was a shock to many fans. Her challenge and subsequent victory over Ronda Rousey for the SmackDown Women’s Championship was met with great enthusiasm by the WWE Universe, who welcomed her back with open arms.

In a recent interview with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Charlotte Flair spoke candidly about her return and how she felt the crowd’s reaction to her victory. She said that she felt as if the audience missed her and that winning the title so soon after returning felt somewhat “heelish.”

However, she also noted that the opportunity was too good to pass up and that winning the championship off of Ronda Rousey, who had broken her arm in the past, made sense in terms of payback. Flair’s competitive spirit was on full display as she was quick to take advantage of the opportunity that presented itself.

After the win, Charlotte Flair’s old habits of snatching the title from the referee kicked in. However, she quickly realized her mistake and apologized profusely backstage. She laughed it off, saying that old habits die hard.

Flair further revealed that she wasn’t expecting to have a match and thought that she was there to set something up for the future. Nonetheless, just coming out with an entrance, whether it was against Ronda Rousey or another opponent, and setting up something for the future felt like enough.

As we look towards WrestleMania 39, it’s worth noting that Charlotte Flair is set to defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Rhea Ripley. It will certainly be a compelling match to see whether Charlotte can secure another victory over Rhea and further solidify her status as one of the all-time greats in women’s wrestling. To discover the outcome, fans will need to tune in and watch the action unfold.
