Trish Stratus Reflects on Her Electrifying Heel Turn at WrestleMania 20

Published on

In professional wrestling, nothing excites fans more than a good heel turn, and Trish Stratus delivered just that at WrestleMania 20. The Canadian superstar shocked the world when she aligned with Christian, turning her back on her on-screen love interest, Chris Jericho.

Recently, Stratus looked back at that fateful moment in an appearance on the Getting Over Podcast. She spoke candidly about the original plans for the storyline, revealing that she and Jericho were supposed to become a quirky Canadian comedy duo known as “Trishtopher.” However, as fate would have it, the fans wanted something different, and the powers that be listened.

In a surprising turn of events, Stratus was informed mere hours before the match that she would be transitioning into a villainous character. “What? This is so many months of storyline to get to this moment,” Stratus exclaimed upon hearing the news. Upon reflection, she realized that it was the most beneficial thing that could have occurred to her character.

With Christian injured, Stratus was forced to step up as the main player in her storyline with Jericho. It was a challenge, but one that she embraced. “It allowed me to grow as a heel, work alongside Jericho, who is amazing and I learned so much working in that capacity,” Stratus said.

Reflecting on that crucial moment in her career, Stratus recognized that if Christian had not been injured, things could have unfolded differently. Nevertheless, she firmly believes that everything occurs for a purpose. “That was my best work as a heel, and my most enjoyable time, for sure. Who knows what it could have been had Christian continued, but it was what it was, and I think it worked out pretty good,” she said.

For Trish Stratus and her legions of fans, that heel turn at WrestleMania 20 will always be remembered as one of the most electrifying moments in wrestling history.
